Project 4.2

I complied images of my parents, including some of them caving in West Virginia. I laid them over a cave background and played with blending modes. My biggest challenge right now is figuring out how to make something like this into a narrative.

  1. I really like the concept of your image so far. I think some parts are a bit dark (around the edges) and could be fixed with an adjustment layer. As for the narrative aspect, I think if you found some way to connect the images you used the narrative part would be a lot more apparent. Good luck!

  2. I really enjoy the concept of your images and the cave aspect is a cool element. I think that making a series of images like this could help with the narrative aspect or planning out a specific scene such as having it seem like they're moving through the caves or something could also help.

  3. I like the aesthetic of your piece! It could be interesting to continue that and maybe age it or add like a sepia filter or soemthing? Just to connect it all!

  4. I really like what you have going so far, you could take the topic of family in a lot of different directions. I agree with Colleen that aging the piece could be really neat, some numbers of words could help give context, but you don't want text to take over the image. Good luck!

  5. I like the concept you have going on. If you can figure out an emphasis that can lead the narrative you are trying to focus on. There is a lot of ideas you can take this narrative with into many different directions.

  6. I think it would be kind of easy to create a narrative for this. Something that comes to mind for me is that caving is all about exploring the unknown. Wandering without seeing what is completely ahead but still heading forward. Having your parents in the photo i think adds a component of you either following in there foot steps on your "journey" or them just being there for you as your support as you explore.

I really enjoy the concept behind your project and I believe the overlays you have applied have successfully created an antique feel. However, perhaps messing around with the order of your photos to create a more visual narrative.

I think what you have is super cool layered on top of each other. Maybe the idea of exploring can come in and make it more of a sequence like what everyone else has said! I love the concept of including your parents!

Project 5.2 [MORE CONCEPT]

Hole 10 Hole 16 Current tee sign example Today I went to the course to get some better reference images of the holes in question. I also got an example picture of the tee signs from the holes where they haven't gone missing. The current tee signs are really basic, so I definitely plan on making mine a lot more detailed and appealing.  While I would love to redo the signs for every hole, I am not sure how practical that would be, so I'll stick to the holes with missing signs for now.

Project 5.1 [CONCEPT]

Since I have been home, I've been playing a lot of disc golf. It is a way to get out and be active with relatively low risk to myself or anyone around me. At my local course, there are two tee signs that are missing for whatever reason. The two holes with missing tee signs are hole 10 and hole 16 (shown above). I have also included an example of a tee sign I found on the internet.  For my project I plan to create tee signs for these two holes. The tee sign shown above is fairly simple, but they usually contain information like hole distance, par strokes, out of bounds and even an elevation profile.
